The Kerala Boat Races is one of the largest team games in the world. This is a yearly event that takes place in the month of August or September in backwaters of Alappuzha showcasing the rich cultural heritage legacy of Kerala.
The most impressive boat race in Kerala is Snake Boat Race, which is commonly referred to as Chundanvallams. Held in connection with Onam, (harvest season) one can see the true sportsman spirit during ten day long festival.
Usually a snake boat race is managed by 4 helmsmen, 25 singers and 100-125 oarsmen. Thousands of local folks crowd the water's edge to cheer the huge black crafts. Champakulam Moolam Boat Race (Oldest Snake boat race in Kerala), Aranmula Boat Race, Payippad Jalotsavam, Nehru Trophy Boat race, Uthrattathi Vallamkali India are great event to watch out for.
